Blue Growth Captains are researchers in marine and maritime fields, focusing on sectors of the blue economy. They aim to support smart, inclusive, and environmentally friendly growth to meet rising societal demands for food, energy, raw materials, employment and economic income.
Starting from May 2024, we'll be visiting schools to introduce marine and maritime research, its impact on daily life, and the commitment of both researchers and the European Union to overcoming related global challenges.

We also target to reduce the stereotypes about researchers introducing young people to the world of R&I and encourage them to consider research careers as viable and attractive options.
If you are a researcher working on marine and maritime research topics, you can join our synergy by visiting a school and giving a seminar on your research in your city.
Navigating the Future
Towards Future Sustainable Blue Growth Leaders
The Captains of Blue Growth Project is rooted in the the EU Mission Ocean and the European partnership “A climate- neutral, sustainable and productive blue economy” as well as the Blue Growth Strategy and European Green Deal. It aims to bring marine and maritime research, researchers and research organizations to the public by:
i) Introducing each blue economy sector and sustainable practices within them,
ii) Highlighting the importance and benefits of marine and maritime research topics and their tangible impact on citizens' daily lives, and
iii) Addressing related global challenges and showcasing how research and the European Union are tackling them.
Three interactive learning opportunities, the Blue Growth Game, Competition and Puzzle are being developed to support blue growth literacy within the scope of project.

The game increases awareness on blue economy sectors and sustainable practices.
Blue Growth Competitions
The competition highlights the importance and key benefits of marine and maritime research and their impact.
Blue Growth Puzzle
The puzzle is designed to explain marine and maritime related global challenges and how the research and EU address them.
